pixie food and wine - byron bay
Pixie Food & Wine, located in Byron Bay, is a richly layered hospitality space that pays homage to 1970s Italy, with thoughtful references to the work of Gae Aulenti—the influential mid-century architect and designer celebrated for her exploration of contrast between heritage and modernity.
Designed by Flack Studio, the interior delivers a signature theatrical ambience, defined by intimate corners for conversation and a carefully curated blend of nostalgia, artistic expression, and luxurious detailing. The space balances warmth with drama, creating a setting that feels both immersive and refined.
In collaboration with Flack Studio, Mortadello Terrazzo designed and fabricated a bespoke Raspberry Red terrazzo dining table with white marble aggregate, specified for the newly opened Pixie restaurant. Acting as a sculptural centrepiece within the private dining room, the table anchors the space while reinforcing the richness of the overall material palette.
Measuring 3.6 x 1.6 metres, the table is constructed as a monolithic composition formed from two terrazzo tabletops and two solid box legs, each leg centred beneath its respective top panel. This structural clarity enhances both stability and visual balance within the expansive room.
The tabletop features a refined combination of a 5mm pencil-round edge profile and 150mm radius corners, softening the overall form and ensuring a subtle, tactile presence despite its scale. The Raspberry Red terrazzo complements the surrounding tones and textures, seamlessly integrating with the interior’s layered finishes.
Designed for both durability and drama, the table accommodates 10–12 guests and can be booked as a private dining experience at Pixie—demonstrating how Mortadello Terrazzo translates bespoke terrazzo craftsmanship into high-impact hospitality environments.
