Studio Fitzroy

Upon entry, a three-metre terrazzo benchtop and full-height splashback immediately sets the tone for this playful yet risqué Fitzroy apartment. Designed as a bold visual statement, the kitchen anchors the space while establishing a strong dialogue between colour, texture, and materiality.

Crafted by Mortadello Terrazzo, the custom terrazzo features bright pink, green, and white marble aggregates, introducing vibrant pops of colour throughout the interior. These expressive tones are grounded by a charcoal concrete base, carefully selected to complement the raw presence of the apartment’s brutalist concrete tilt-panel wall slabs.

Continuing the material language into the bathroom, three large-format terrazzo floor tiles were specified for both the bathroom and shower. Their scale minimises grout lines, creating a refined and contemporary surface that feels cohesive and architectural.

This approach allows for a seamless, level transition from the oak herringbone timber flooring in the kitchen into the wet areas, balancing warmth and tactility with durability and precision. The result is a cohesive interior where terrazzo plays a central role in unifying form, function, and personality.

This project highlights Mortadello Terrazzo’s ability to deliver bespoke terrazzo solutions that are expressive, technically resolved, and deeply integrated within residential architecture.
