The Block Arcade Heritage Restoration - Melbourne

As part of lease reinstatement requirements, Bendigo Bank engaged Mortadello to restore and reinstate the original terrazzo shopfront partitions within Melbourne’s iconic Block Arcade, including a significant portion of Block Court.

The scope involved the fabrication of multiple precast terrazzo partitions, each meticulously produced in Mortadello’s workshop to replicate the original heritage fabric. These shopfront elements incorporated a high level of technical detail, including coved internal corners, mitred junctions, decorative ventilation panels, and sloping gradients, all colour-matched to the existing historic terrazzo.

Given the heritage significance of the arcade, the project demanded absolute precision in both form and finish. The newly fabricated terrazzo partitions integrate seamlessly with the original material, ensuring visual continuity while delivering the durability required for long-term use. This restoration safeguards the architectural integrity of the Block Arcade and extends the life of its historic terrazzo elements for future generations.
