Mortadello X Thomas Lentini custom Dining Table – toorak
This custom terrazzo dining table was designed and fabricated by Mortadello Terrazzo in collaboration with James Richardson Furniture and woodworker Thomas Lentini. Created as a one-off bespoke furniture piece, the table was carefully designed to nest within the junction between the kitchen and family living area, transforming an otherwise compact nook into a highly functional and sculptural dining space.
The project combines custom terrazzo, handcrafted timber joinery, and curved architectural detailing to create a dining table that feels fully integrated within the home’s interior design. The surrounding palette of timber flooring, marble surfaces, and deep burgundy banquette seating informed the development of the table’s custom “mixed chip spritz” terrazzo colour blend — a playful yet refined terrazzo mix featuring varied aggregate sizes and tonal movement.
Unlike off-the-shelf terrazzo furniture, the tabletop was custom-fabricated specifically for the space, with a subtle concave curve designed to follow the contour of the curved wall and built-in banquette seating. This subtle curve allows the table to sit naturally within the room, echoing the softened geometry of the surrounding interior, while creating a more comfortable and intimate dining experience.
The solid timber table legs were individually hand-turned on a lathe by Thomas Lentini, with each leg intentionally varying in proportion and profile to celebrate the natural character of handcrafted furniture making. The combination of terrazzo and solid timber brings warmth, softness, and texture to the space, allowing the piece to feel considered, inviting, and naturally connected to the surrounding architecture.
The interplay between the tactile warmth of hand-turned timber and the richness of the terrazzo surface creates a grounded yet sculptural presence — a piece designed to feel intrinsically connected to the architecture and lived experience of the home.
